Evo proposes a global referendum on real solutions for climate change

During his presentation today at the UN Climate Conference, President Evo Morales Ayma of Bolivia proposed a global popular referendum that would tackle the root causes of climate change. Below are the questions he proposed. Please circulate widely.

QUESTIONS FOR THE REFERENDUM ON CLIMATE CHANGE

1) Do you agree with re-establishing harmony with nature while recognizing the rights of Mother Earth? YES or NO

2) Do you agree with changing this model of over-consumption and waste that  the capitalist system represents? YES or NO

3) Do you agree that developed countries reduce and re-absorb their domestic greenhouse gas emissions so that the temperature does not rise more than 1 degree Celsius? YES or NO

4) Do you agree with transferring all that is spent in wars to protecting the planet and allocate a budget for climate change that is bigger than what is used for defense? YES or NO

5) Do you agree with a Climate Justice Tribunal to judge those who destroy Mother Earth? YES or NO

Bolivia's President Evo Morales Ayma is on the right track in his call for a global referendum, but his 5 proposed questions are too numerous and miss the mark in any event.

Expecting 200 totally sovereign nations to run a planet is the equivalent of asking a bunch of mayors to run a country. We need a directly-elected, representative and democratic world parliament that is authorized to legislate on global issues, and since "governance with the consent of the governed" is the very essence of democracy, we need a successful global referendum to get from here to there. We have started a global referendum on this real issue at www.voteworldgovernment.org, and if it goes viral, it could be virtually done in a decade. Vote now, and get your friends and family to vote too. And if you have the time, ask President Evo to propose a formal global referendum in the UN General Assembly (see draft resolution at www.voteworldgovernment.org/draftUNresolution.pdf).

I do agree with Jim's statement about current system of governing of the planet. To change this scenerio we need a directly-elected, representative and democratic world parliament that is authorized to legislate on global issues. Jim is absolutely right that "governance with the consent of the governed" is the very essence of democracy and we need a successful global referendum to achieve it. Such a global referendum has already been started by a team of democracy loving people under Jim's leadership. It can be visited at www.voteworldgovernment.org. We (not I only)strongly believe that this dream would happen to be true a day, which might come soon with your support. Please vote, and mobilise your friends and family to vote too. Also I would like to request President Evo to propose a formal global referendum in the UN General Assembly in this context.

I think that proposed questions are very good, also there will be movements that have ONLY ONE proposal, and other movements can have different ones. Is great to start generating the People's participation in several Referendums. I also proposed "Participative Polls" ground campaigns in several topics, because in some countries, a lot of people doesn't know anything, or just a little about:
-These topics
-Referendum, politics
-International issues
-How to support the Earth, with little actions, etc.

I think is sad that people participates with high levels of disinformation and/or ignorance.

Let's support the Global Referendum! You can also vote here:
