Awakening 7 i Polonia Aktywna wspiera kampanie "Chów przemysłowy śmierdzi",ruch rowerowy,opór przeciw eksmisjom, alterglobalistycznie przeciw G8

Dzisiejszy Awakening głównie akcjach przeciwko przemysłowi mięsnemu Będziemy opowiadać o Pig trasie po Holandii i Niemczech edukującej o ogromnych mega rzeźniach.

Do usłyszenia

Iran - Break the Blackout

Dear friends,

Contribute!

Iranians urgently need internet access to circulate videos and reports like that of the shooting of Neda. If the regime believes it can stifle these reports, the crackdown will worsen. let's fund simple, cheap tools to help Iranians get back online:

A brutal crackdown in Iran is gathering pace as the internet is shut down, leaving Iranians unable to circulate videos and reports of lethal shootings, beatings and mass arrests.1

Ruling clerics are in crisis talks -- many are criticising the crackdown. Fresh evidence of the brutality - circulated through YouTube, Twitter and email, will increase the pressure to stop the crackdown.2

We urgently need to help Iranians get back on the internet and publicize the regime's abuses - it's the best way to protect activists from further harm. Secure and anonymous "proxy services" are helping people to bypass regime controls and get online -- but they're overloaded and running out of funds.3 A small donation of just $10 can provide bandwidth for hundreds of secure emails - if 10,000 of us donate in the next 72 hours, we can help break the blackout:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/iran_break_the_blackout

Proxy services provide people with a single link at which they can freely access the internet. The link is changed every time the regime blocks access to it. With 10,000 donors, we can scale up the proxy services massively -- providing more servers, bandwidth and advanced technical support.

The next two weeks are crucial. As Iran's secret policemen cast their net far and wide, secure channels of communication are also critical to avoiding the crackdown. Scores have been killed and hundreds of human rights advocates, journalists, bloggers and peaceful protesters imprisoned. Although many more remain free, without safe ways to communicate they will face terrible risks.

After the crackdowns in Tibet and Burma, Avaaz members donated in our thousands to preserve the people's basic human right to free communication and information. Overcoming censorship to make contact with each other and the world is crucial at these moments. Sharing information about the protests still flaring up around the provinces of Iran from Kurdish areas to the holy city of Qom, or uploading YouTube videos and first-hand reports of bravery and brutality to Iran's million-plus weblogs and networks like Twitter, could make a huge difference.4 If the regime believe they can silence such reports, the crackdown will only worsen.

Legitimacy matters in Iran. From inspirational videos of million-strong marches to shocking evidence of militia violence, the truth will come out only if Iranians can communicate freely with each other.5 The clerical councils engaged in closed-door crisis talks are paying great attention to the voices being raised in their society. Let's make sure Iran's voices are not silenced – help break the blackout before it's too late:

Israel uses electric shock torture against children

Israel uses electric shock torture against children

RAMALLAH, -- The Palestinian prisoner club accused the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) of committing new crimes of corporal torture against children through giving them electric shocks and beating them severely.

The club said that Palestinian child Hamza Al-Za'aol, who was kidnapped on the fourth of May on a charge of throwing stones, told club lawyers that Israeli occupation forces (IOF) used electric shocks against him in Etzion prison while another child detained on the same day called Ismail Al-Za'aol said he was severely beaten especially in his broken leg.

The club revealed that the number of children kidnapped during the first quarter of 2009 rose to 443 prisoners after kidnapping 14 minors this year.

In another related context, the popular committee against torture said in a report issued Wednesday that the IOF troops and the Shin Bet security service deliberately tortured Palestinian detainees through handcuffing them in a painful manner contrary to international law.

The committee said that its report depended on 574 cases of arrest and interrogation during the last year and on testimonies collected from Israeli soldiers by the organization of breaking the silence that is concerned about reporting on IOF troops' violations.

Alone in 2009, already 288 Palestinian children have
been killed by IDF and settlers. In the same time
not one single israeli child was killed by Palestinians.

Since year 2000, 1435 Palestinian children between
aged between 1 and 17 years have been killed by Israelis.

"A soldier pointed his rifle at me. The rifle barrel was a few centimetres away from my face. I was so terrified that I started to shiver. He made fun of me and said: 'Shivering? Tell me where the pistol is before I shoot you.'"
- Ezzat, 10 years old

Israel's systematic ill-treatment and torture of Palestinian children

Each year, approximately 700 Palestinian children (under 18) from the West Bank are prosecuted through Israeli military courts after being arrested, interrogated and detained by the Israeli army. Since 2000, around 6,500 Palestinian children have been detained, says a new report titled Palestinian Child Prisoners.

From the moment of arrest, Palestinian children encounter ill-treatment and in some cases torture, at the hands of Israeli soldiers, policemen and interrogators.

Children are commonly arrested from the family home in the hours before daw
n by heavily armed soldiers. The child is painfully bound, blindfolded and bundled into the back of a military vehicle without any indication as to why or where the child is being taken.

Children are commonly mistreated during the transfer process and arrive at the interrogation and detention centres traumatised, tired and alone. During interrogation, children as young as 12 years are denied access to a lawyer and visits from their families. These children will generally not be permitted to see a lawyer until after they have provided a confession to the interrogator.

Whilst under interrogation children are subjected to a number of prohibited techniques, including the excessive use of blindfolds and handcuffs; slapping and kicking; painful position abuse for long periods of time; solitary confinement and sleep deprivation; and a combination of physical and psychological threats to the child, and the child's family.

Confessions written in Hebrew

Most children confess and some are forced to sign confessions written in Hebrew, a language they do not comprehend. These interrogations are not video recorded as is required under Israeli domestic law.

Children as young as 12 years are prosecuted in the Israeli military courts and are treated as adults as soon as they turn 16, in contrast to the situation under Israeli domestic law, whereby majority is attained at 18.

In 2008 the most common offence Palestinian children were charged with under Israeli military law, was stone throwing. This charge was made in 26.7% of cases and under Israeli Military Order 378 carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment. In 91% of all cases involving Palestinian children, bail was denied.

Proceedings in the military courts disregard many basic fair trial rights and general principles of juvenile justice are simply not applied. In almost all cases, the primary evidence against the children is the confession extracted during a coercive interrogation. With no faith in the system and the potential for harsh sentences, approximately 95% of cases end in the child pleading guilty, whether the offence was committed or not.

No family visits

Once sentenced, the overwhelming majority of Palestinian children are detained inside Israel, in clear contravention of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Many children receive no family visits whilst in prison and limited education is only provided in two out of five of the prisons used to detain Palestinian children.

The ill-treatment and torture of Palestinian children by Israeli authorities is widespread, systematic and institutionalised. This system operates within a general culture of brutality and impunity. Between 2001 and 2008, over 600 complaints were filed against Israeli Security Agency (ISA) interrogators for alleged ill-treatment and torture. To date, there has not been a single criminal investigation.

Unless and until there is some level of accountability for what amounts to serious breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention, the UN Convention Against Torture and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, both at the domestic and international level, the ill-treatment and torture of Palestinian children at the hands of Israeli authorities will continue unchecked.

We have started a courtcase against the 429 declaration that was made last week on the squatted social centre at Ruyterkade 153 157.
SCUB (social centre under the bridge), has now been squatted for some months. This space starts from our need to have a project based on self organization, and the expanding of possibilities that can grow from this.
These are some of the ongoing activities in this space, from regular bar and vokus, to infonights, workshops, hacklab, silkscreening, radio, cinema, unplugged rehearsals and peformance etc.

it is hard to ask for support and solidarity when a space with potential is merely at the beginning of its existence and growth. However since it is important for us to find somewhat of a continuity and stability with the development of these projects and the strengthening social interactions (not only with squatters) , we are, without illusions of the “justice” system, trying to keep this space.
This does not limit the creativity and range of actions that we support and encourage in attack and disgust against the invasion of our lives from a system that does not give anybodya choice to exist outside of it, especially within an urban space.

Ah yeah and our building is “owned” by Ymere and the city of amsterdam.

So, if you are interested in participating, supporting or visiting the space, check out the website for our program and events.

Action for Life and the Environment in Paraguay

Paraguay has turned into the 4th world GM soy exporting country, where soy is currently taking up over 2 million hectares of land. GM soy is destinated among other places to Europe and China, where it is used to feed the animals for our consumption and for biodiesel production for our cars.

But industrial monocultures require intensive agrochemical spraying that contaminate and impact the health of the rural, indigenous and small farmer population.

Write today to the paraguayan president Fernando Lugo and ask him to veto a new law that favours the indisriminate use of agrochemicals and threathens life and nature at:

Pigs in Geneva! - Avaaz swine flu petition delivery

Dear Friends,

The delivery of the 225,000 strong Avaaz Swine Flu petition to the WHO was reported all over the world. We found our concerns about factory farms were valid and our campaigning is vital.
Thank you for participating in the Swine Flu campaign!

We stopped traffic in Geneva on May 27th as we descended on the World Health Organization (WHO) with a herd of cardboard pigs to deliver our petition! The 225 cardboard pigs represented the 225,000 Avaaz members that had signed the petition. We certainly got our message across -- our campaign delivery went out around the world on ABC news, EFE TV, the Wall Street Journal, France 24, Kuwait News Agency, and Intellasia - as well as many other major news outlets. Click the link to see the coverage.

When we handed over our petition, it became apparent how important our campaigning was and how valid our concerns were. Initially, the World Health Organization's Food Safety and Zoonoses director, Dr. Jørgen Schlundt, told us that the WHO and the FAO had not found a link between the H1N1 virus and a factory farm and that the source was still under investigation. But he then admitted that scientists have seen more disease breeding and mutating between animals and humans with the massive increase in industrial meat production; he agreed that certain company's farming practices (Smithfields in this case) were dangerous; he warned that new operations propagating in developing countries could make 'mistakes' that could be seriously risky to human health; and most importantly he indicated that the political processes that determine the research and rules on factory farm biosafety are dominated by the industrial meat lobby. He made clear that strong global regulations are essential, but unless there is a huge deadly scare like BSE, scientists are unable to push through the laws needed to prevent animal borne pandemics.

The message was clear - our public campaigning for investigation and regulation of factory farms is vital to ensure our food safety and counter the powerful meat industry. Our action showed the WHO that the world does not want to wait for another disaster - we want funding for scientists to investigate factory farms and we want preventive measures put in place that ensure public heath standards. Click the link below to see photos of the action and the media coverage:

http://www.avaaz.org/blog/en/w/pascal/2009/06/swine_flu_petition_delivery_to_the_who.php

Thank you again for taking action!

With appreciation and conviction that together we can achieve the world we want,

Alice, Pascal and the rest of the Avaaz team

Iran: stop the crackdown

Dear Friends,

Iranian activists have appealed to the world to oppose the violent crackdown on their protests. Massive new protests are planned, the regime is divided. A united global outcry of 1 million voices could help stop the violence. Call on world leaders to unite against the crackdown:

Sign the petition
Today, the hearts and hopes of people around the world are with protesters facing awful risks on the streets of Iran. Regardless of who won the election, the question now is one of fundamental human rights.

Top Iranian leaders are divided, so every bit of pressure matters. With massive new protests imminent, Iranian activists are urgently appealing for a united international response to oppose the violent crackdown.

Sign the petition below calling on ALL governments to condemn the crackdown and withhold recognition of any Iranian government until election concerns are peacefully addressed. Then forward this email to friends and family -- let's build a massive global outcry of 1 million voices against the crackdown:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/iran_stop_the_crackdown

We'll deliver the petition directly to the leaders of Iran's largest trading partners and the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the UN, and other international groups respected in Iran. A united international response will puncture the regime's spin that the US and UK alone are behind global criticism.

People power is sweeping global politics. But where leaders respond violently to nonviolent protest, from Burma to Zimbabwe to Iran, global solidarity is needed to show governments that repression weakens their rule, rather than strengthening it.

Avaaz means "voice" in Farsi, the Iranian language. Let's show the people of Iran that, whoever they voted for, we support their right to have their voices heard. Click below to sign the petition, and spread the word by forwarding this email:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/iran_stop_the_crackdown

With hope and determination,

Ricken, Ben, Milena, Paul, Raluca, Brett, Iain, Pascal, Raj, Graziela, Taren, Paula, Margaret, Veronique and the whole Avaaz team.

Peru Amazon protests a success

Government repeals laws allowing development

Indigenous people in Peru's Amazon are celebrating after the country's government revoked two land laws.

The proposed laws, which the Indian group claimed would lead to foreign grabs for oil and gas on their ancestral lands, led to violent protests and up to 50 deaths.

The protestors have blocked roads and rivers across the Amazon region. The two laws would have allowed farming and logging in the region.

Major clashes occurred on 5 June at roadblocks in the northern town of Bagua where the majority of deaths occurred.

Reports from Peru say the Indian groups have now lifted most of their blockades.

The two repealed laws were part of 11 established in a free trade agreement between Peru and the US.

However, protestors have so far successfully managed to get the government to reverse four laws. Last April a protest against the agreement by farmers caused chaos around the tourist hotspots of Cusco and Machu Picchu.

UNITED PRESS RELEASE: 20 June Refugee Day - 13.250 Deaths

UNITED MEDIA RELEASE 18/06/09: INTERNATIONAL REFUGEE DAY - 20 JUNE 2009

13.250 MIGRANT DEATHS DOCUMENTED BY UNITED

'The amounts needed to rescue people are less than what is needed to rescue banks'.
Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner

'The best town for living is one in which a foreigner feels at home'.
Italo Calvino, Italian writer born in Cuba

- At least 13.250 persons have died in their desperate attempt to find a safe shelter in Europe since 1993

- Their names and their stories have been compiled by the UNITED secretariat under the so-called 'List of Deaths'

- The experts say it is impossible to know the real number and it is likely to be three times higher

- Hundreds of organisations from Turkey to Finland speak out against this intolerable human cost of building 'Fortress Europe' to celebrate the International Refugee Day

- On the 50th anniversary of the Geneva Convention in 2001, the United Nations declared June 20th the International Refugee Day.

Adam Osman Mohammed was 38 years old when he was shot in Darfur after accepting voluntary repatriation when his asylum claim was refused in Great Britain; he died in his home in front of his wife and his four-year-old son. Chulun Liua, a 51-year-old Chinese woman, was left in coma after jumping out of a window to avoid a police raid in Paris. Afrim Magastena, a 24-year-old Albanian man from Kosovo, hanged himself in a detention centre in Prenzlau, Germany, in fear of deportation.

13.250 sad stories like these ones are documented in the 'List of Deaths' whereby the UNITED for Intercultural Action secretariat has been monitoring the deadly results of 'Fortress Europe' since 1993. The current 'List of Deaths' already includes
13.250 deaths of asylum seekers and migrants who have lost their lives in an attempt to find a safe shelter in Europe.

Although the experts say it is impossible to know the real number, which is likely to be three times higher, the UNITED 'List of Deaths' has been made with a rigorous method of comparing sources, from news to NGOs' media releases.

Where, when and under which circumstances the refugees died is data compiled exclusively from officially documented deaths.

With these facts UNITED spreads a powerful lobby and awareness-raising tool possible to use in campaign actions all over Europe.

20th of June: International Refugee Day
On the 50th anniversary of the Geneva Convention in 2001, the United Nations declared the 20th of June the International Refugee Day.

Every year on the 20th of June,
UNITED for Intercultural Action -the largest pan European network against racism, fascism, nationalism and in support of refugees and migrants- celebrates the International Refugee Day.

Around this day,
hundreds of organisations from Turkey to Finland speak out against this intolerable human cost of building 'Fortress Europe' to celebrate the International Refugee Day. Under the common slogan 'Fortress Europe. Weakness Humanity' hundreds of activities and events take place all over the continent in order to highlight this issue and promote refugees' rights.

The main point of these acts is raising awareness about the human side of the refugee issue and preserving their dignity.

Building a safe Fortress
Hundreds of migrants and asylum seekers all over Europe are fleeing from war, persecution or poverty. In the last years the number of migrants seeking refuge has grown considerably, due to several ongoing wars, the increasing intolerance toward minorities in many countries and the global economical crisis.

This week the
UN High Commissioner, Antonio Guterres, has launched the UNHCR's annual '2008 Global Trends' report which shows the number of people forcibly uprooted by conflict and persecution worldwide stood at 42 million at the end of last year.

Nevertheless, while the need for protection is increasing, the open attitude of those countries where migrants seek refuge is decreasing.

In fact the European public debate tendency links crime rates with migration. The economical situation creates an atmosphere, which drives people to look for scapegoats.

In Greece, for example, the Government has recently promised the deportation of 100 migrants and asylum seekers per day.

UNITED is convinced that this attitude cannot be accepted. This kind of Government decisions is dangerous because it legitimizes racist and discriminatory attitudes. Many examples can prove the inhuman consequences of these policies, such as the migrants' detention centres, prisons for undocumented people without any legal supervision. Also, the use of deportation as a tool to control 'illegal' migration is often beyond the limits of Europe's democratic and humanitarian legacy. The increasing externalization of Europe's borders as a practice of territorial protection is also beyond human and political legitimization. Indeed the new European borders are now outside its territory. Libya, Morocco and Mauritania, countries that haven't signed some of the most basic international agreements on human rights, have built new detention centres, which examine migrant-candidates. By externalizing deportation Europe cannot guarantee that the rights contemplated by the Geneva Convention are respected. Therefore, Europe violates the most important international agreement on human rights.

Sunland - The Land of Freedom.

The Sunland project team.

For many centuries humanity has been dreaming about the Land of Freedom that could be a pattern for the rest of the world. The best human minds: Thomas More, Tomaso Campanella, Henri de Saint-Simon, Charles Fourier, etc. had devoted themselves to this dream. Although their dream didn't come true, but aspirations of many millions people, which these genius had expressed in their writings, are alive in the present world more than ever before. And now their dreams and aspirations have all chances to become a reality.

The Sunland project puts into practice, grows up every day. As it should be, many energetic, fully alive people are very interested in Sunland. There is a huge interest about question "Where Sunland can be located?" We wish to inform all that at this moment as a place for Sunland
we consider Oeno Island (that is now uninhabited and legally belongs to Pitcairn islands, British overseas territory. See also a detailed satellite map of the island ) For comparison, Oeno land area is twice more than the "Freetown Christiania". This place we want to propose for consideration. Feel free to express yours views, concerns and suggestions. From the very beginning, the activists and all people who care should create Sunland themselves. All views must be considered, all rational proposals should be carefully explored. The original plan for a practical organization of the Sunland settlement was called "Sunrise Plan" (see below).

The Sunland project team.

___________________________________________
The “Sunrise Plan”.

“Sunrise Plan ” is the stage-by-stage plan of organization the Sunland settlement on the Oeno Island.

1st stage.

А) Starting negotiations with Pitcairn Islands officials (Mayor and Council) and with the representatives of the British Crown to provide location for the settlement on Oeno Island according certain conditions.

B) The deployment of fund-raising campaign.

C) Starting a large-scale PR campaign to raise awareness the art-community, media, and world public opinion about the Sunland.

2nd stage.

Elaboration of the question: how participants would arrive on the island, and how necessary for the settlement goods would be transported? Groups of the participants will arrive on the island through various transport modes (aircraft, passenger ship, longboat, yacht). There will be the initiators of the project in the first arriving group.

3rd stage.

Arriving on the island. Construction of housing, arranging necessary living conditions and communication with the outside world.

Greenpeace ageert tegen proefvelden Monsanto Roundup Ready mais

Persbericht - Amsterdam, 18 juni 2009

Informatie: Daniëlle Bourgois - 020 5319535, d.bourgois@maisondescartes.nl

This summer from July 8-10 another G8 summit is planned in Italy. For a
long period of time it was eerily quiet on the activist front and assumed
was that most Italians were too busy battling the daily repression of the
fascist Italian state (we think we can declare it now officially as
fascist). But over the last months a multitude of initiatives have popped
up that plan to counter the upcoming summit and there were a range of
successful protests against the G8 preparatory ministers' meetings. In
this newsletter we try to summarize the late developments and look ahead
with the question on how to support our fellow activists in Italy.

*1. Genua 2001 – L'Aquila 2009

It's been 8 years since the last G8 summit in Italy but the images of
Genoa lie still fresh in peoples' memory. The picture of 23 year-old Carlo
Giuliani shot dead by the Carabinieri went all over the world. All charges
against the cop that pulled the trigger were dropped in a shady process.
The night-time police raid on the Diaz school, used as sleeping space, had
62 protesters hospitalized (incl three comatose). In a trial that lasted
until the end of 2008 twenty eight police officers were accused of
indicting grievous bodily harm (a blood bath) and planting evidence to
legitimize their attack on the sleeping protesters. None of the convicted
operational police commanders went to jail as their offences were expired.

http://www.carlo-giuliani.com
http://www.processig8.org

There has been no justice, and for activists in Italy even lesser peace.
The coalition led by Berlusconi brought neo-fascist parties back in power,
nicely blended with a neoliberal economical program (nothing new though).
The populist extreme-right is gaining voters all over Europe but in Italy
the racist police state is already in full affect targeting migrants and
the political left. This government is hosting the next G8 summit bringing
together the heads of state of France, UK, US, Japan, Germany, Russia,
Canada, and Italy.

Initially the plan was to host the respected world leaders on the small
island La Maddalena (Sardinia) but it was later moved to L'Aquila as a way
of showing Berlusconi's desire to help the region of Abruzzi after the
earthquake that hit it on the 6th of April. On the agenda there are
climate, resources, food and migration – as security political risks for
the industrial countries. Normally no subject for G8 summits, Berlusconi
in addition wants to drive forward the 'regulation of the internet.'

http://eyfa.org/eyfa_newsletter/antifascism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G8 & http://www.g8italia2009.it

The earthquake in L'Aquila killed 300 people and the majority of survivors
are accommodated in provisional tents. Besides a supposed saving of costs
the summit is transferred to L'Aquila to prevent protests: "I don´t
believe that anti-globalists will have the courage to organize violent
demonstrations in this earthquake-stricken region", Berlusconi stated.
Leftist groups and activists are already present though in the Abruzzi
region right from the start supporting the victims of the quake. They have
taken matters into their own hands, in operating large kitchens, in
providing further infrastructure as well as in delivering material aids
and healthy food. The camp kitchen in San Bagio was already on the first
day named after Carlo Giuliani.
http://www.gipfelsoli.org/Multilanguage/6993.html

Meanwhile there is the appeal 'Appropriate the mountains, bury G8!'
calling upon the 'Global Multitude' to seize the opportunity in the
Abruzzi region to build 'sustainable, forward thinking communities.' The
group Diggers 2.0 calls for 'Solidarity out of the ruins of
Neoliberalism':
"We need solutions of the crisis from down below,
an opposing power of social movements with a shovel in its hand getting
ready to build a post-capitalist world."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

*2. Students and farmers rear their heads in the run-up

As traditionally in the run-up to the meeting of the heads of state there
are the smaller meetings of ministers of the different ministerial
departments – e.g. agriculture, education, or justice & home affairs. Over
the last three months these ministers' meetings were met with mass
protests and direct actions.

From April 18-20 there was an agriculture ministers' meeting in Treviso.
Before the meeting started a laboratory in Roncade for experiments with
genetically modified organisms was "sanctioned from below" (the
greenhouses and surveillance cameras were thrashed), and in another action
activists of the group called "Health and Environment" had written "NO
OGM" (no genetically modified organisms) into a field, which was unable to
be overlooked from an aerial view. There have further been protest
initiatives and actions of anarchists, disobbedienti, and activists from
the social centers as well as the Italian federation of farmers,
demonstrating against environmental destruction, industrial agriculture,
Nano- and genetic technology. In Rome, workers in the field of agriculture
were on strike for eight hours.

From April 22-24 the environmental ministers met in Siracusa, Sicily.
There was a demonstration of 3000 people of which the mobilization process
led to a strong collaboration between a broad range of groups that will
continue coordinating together against speculation and environmental
destruction: starting with the fight against the erection of gas digesters
in the Petrochemie complex of Priolo-Augusta.

On May 19 10.000 students blocked the city of Turin and battled the police
far into the Red Zone guarding the G8 University summit. Under the header
'The Perfect Wave' the protest was part of the European-wide 'Anomalous
Wave' – a fast growing network of students resisting cuts and reforms in
education and taking action. Despite massive amounts of tear gas the
students came close to the summit venue to denounce the illegitimate
university representatives inside and to underline that they would use
every occasion to overturn the crisis against those responsible for it.

At the meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs ministers, May 28-30 in
Rome, 5000 people demonstrated against their racist migration politics –
this meeting originally scheduled on Lampedusa had been postponed quickly
after riots in the refugee camps. One week before 15000 people had been
already on the streets in Milano to show their protest against the Italian
security decrees.

... and there is more coming up.

*3. How to support

1) Hitchike, cycle, hop on a bus or train to Italy but note that the
Italian authorities plan to restore border controls by suspending the
Schengen Treaty from 28 June to 15 July. This proposal has been formally
given by the Minister of Home Affairs Roberto Maroni on May 30 during the
final media conference of the Justice and Home Affairs Ministers' meeting.
So... take care of how you dress, and what you take on you and expect to
be stop and searched.

2) Organize or join local decentralized actions or demos.

On July 4 a big demonstration is planned in Berlin 'Quake G8 2009 – We are
your crisis!'. They are specifically calling for pushing ahead the
transnational struggle against the „architectures of security" no matter
if they shall be constructed by NATO, G8 or the EU.

3) Organize solidarity actions in the aftermath. Our movements are build
on solidarity and we should never forget those that ended up in the
prisons of the state.

Now or never in Iran

Dear friends,

Millions of Iranians are taking to the streets in outrage at evidence that Thursday's election was stolen – let's support a rigorous exit poll to establish the truth of how they voted before it's too late:

Iran is on a knife-edge, with millions of voters taking to the streets in outrage as evidence mounts that the government may have massively rigged and stolen Thursday's election. The regime has cracked down brutally on the protesters and is imposing a blackout on Iranian society -- shutting down domestic and international media, the internet and even text-messaging.

The voice of Iranians may have been silenced at the polling booth, now the regime is attempting to silence them everywhere else. Facing beatings and gunfire, the opposition is organising mass demonstrations and a general strike. We can't afford to let the regime dismiss the voice of the people -- the truth must be heard.

Avaaz is urgently organising a rigorous "exit poll" of Iranian voters and a media effort to publicise it -- working with an international polling firm to do a telephone survey of Iranian citizens to ask how they voted. We urgently need 10,000 Avaaz members to pitch in a small amount each to raise $119,000 in the next 24 hours and give Iranians a powerful new way to be heard -- follow this link to view video from the streets of Tehran and support this exit poll to find out the truth:

Public polling in Iran is heavily restricted, and no-one else is mobilizing fast enough to fund an international exit poll. It's urgent that we pitch in. A telephone poll won't be 100% accurate, but the difference between opposition and government claims is massive -- a rigorous poll can show which claim is remotely near the truth.

Unlike Western organizations, Avaaz's global network has a strong membership in Iran and across the Middle East. Backed by a respected polling firm, our effort will be harder to dismiss by Iranian conservatives. We'll send the poll results to the media and help our members in Iran to rapidly and virally spread the news despite the regime's blackout.

Messages have been flooding in from our Iranian members -- from Fariba: "20.000.000 people have lost their votes for peace and human rights. The government wants to use this votes for every thing but PEACE. Avaaz is a Persian word too and means voice -- hear our 'avaaz'". From Mahmoud: "The government has stolen the vote the people. The people in the street are beaten badly by the police. Now now now do not lose the time". Stand with Iranians now and help their voices be heard:

This election matters to us all. Iran is a major regional power, and the international community is seeking diplomatic engagement that holds a key to peace in the Middle East. But hawks and extremists on all sides want war instead: a conservative coup in Iran could destroy all our hopes.

The conservative Guardian Council, headed by a key Ahmadinejad ally, is reviewing the vote over the next 9 days -- our poll can be ready before they give their verdict, to counter any further rigging and the violent purge that could follow.

There is a real possibility that democracy will prevail. Ultimate power in Iran lies with Ayatollah Khamenei, who may have backed the rigging -- but he is hired and fired by the Assembly of Experts, chaired by ex-President Rafsanjani who has condemned vote-fixing. If Rafsanjani and allies can get enough votes on the Assembly this week, they can press to re-open the results, even to remove Khamenei from power. A scientific opinion poll could be a powerful piece of evidence.

In the next 72 hours, the Iranian people will try once again to be heard. Let's help make sure their voices are not silenced -- follow this link to see their courage and donate now to help fund the exit poll:

With hope,
