Free Alternative Documentary Festival
Bajesdoc is a free alternative documentary film festival in Bajesdorp and other autonomous locations in Amsterdam Oost. With dozens of inspiring documentaries related to environment, politics, human-rights, and various social struggles here and over the world, discussions/debates with some of the movie makers will sometimes follow the screenings...Bajesdoc is made possible by a group of international volunteers engaged in alternative neighbourhood initiatives.
Dates: December 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th. the movies are there.

TV-magnate and Presidente Silvio Berlusconi has influenced the content of commercial television in a way never before done in Italy. His TV-channels, with their young skimpy-clad girls, are seen by many to mirror his own taste and personality. In Videocracy, Italian-born director Erik Gandini portrays the consequences of a TV-experiment that Italians have been subjected to for 30 years. Gaining unique access to the most powerful media spheres, he unveils a remarkable story, born out of the scary reality of "TV-Republic" Italy. Screening will be followed by a discussion with Silvio Berlusconi. |

Documentary made with archive footages shot on April the 30th 1980, a date remembered by the Dutch as the coronation of Queen Beatrix and... massive squatter's riots that occured simultanuously a few blocks away. It's a nostalgic and resumed summary of the events that made April the 30th 1980, a legendary date. Furthermore it shows how different a protest (which later on becomes a riot) is held by both police and demonstrators. The movie will be presented by the maker. |

Killing Fields, the Battle to feed factory farms | |||||||||||||||||||||

Few people realise that a hidden chain of destruction stretches from factory farms in Europe to the forests of South America- where huge soy plantations are wiping out wildlife and making climate change worse. Indigenous people are being evicted to make way for soy plantations unable to grow their own food and forests are being cleared. Many of the soybeans are genetically modified and massively increase the use of pesticides- resulting in the poisoning of rural communities, water resources and the natural environment. Meanders is a visual and narrative journey along the Guaviare, a social and cultural mosaic, a stage on which the armed conflict and the drug trade unfold, revealing the perception of the indigenous and farming communities residing in the Colombian Amazon regarding their own territory. Opposing the media's narrative, which doesn't recognize the communities perception on their own lands, during this odyssey the people and the images reveal the logic of the war, the logic of illegality and the cultural thinking of the communities that live in the Guaviare. Meanders show the sinuous path that brings the communities together and sets then apart. The contradictions, the animosities and similarities across the land's cultural mosaic are allegories to each of the river's turns. |
