Alora ra ra ra, zondag zijn wij - als desinfectieteam - de kalverstraat op gegaan om ons allen van consumptiedriften te desinfecteren, om de voorbijgangers te prikkelen en te verrassen met een macabere optocht. Door middel van straattheater willen wij de - in onze ogen - maatschappelijke scheve verlangens en kwesties aan kaak stellen, en wanneer nodig kiezen trekken.

Geachte koopkrachtige gelukzoekers,
Hier - in de Kalverstraat - wordt ons met gemak het ‘allermooiste’ beloofd, en tegelijkertijd worden we onderhuids besmet met eeuwige ontevredenheid. De behoefde tot meer en meer en meer stijgt met elke stap die wij door deze straat zetten, de winkels verwelkomen onze gretige blik, onze pupillen lijden onder de prijskaartjes verwrongen in een doolhof van parels, gladde jasjes, spiegels, soepele schoenzolen en fascinerende MODE. We zijn hartelijk deelgenoot geworden van het stadsdeel ‘Shop till you drop’. And… one day… you will, angstig voor de eenzame 'drop' spartelen wij - misvormt tot een merk - tussen de winkels/shops van ons gouden kalfje.
Wij komen ons allen redden, ontvang ons met open armen, wij komen ons ontsmetten, wij verstoren onze constante ontspoorde verlangens. Wij offeren het kalf en bedekken de straat met maagdelijk wit. Wij reinigen het geheugen van dodelijke verlangens, hebzucht, en consumptiedrift. Betreed nu de loper die wij voor u achterlaten en u zult grijnzend het consumptie-walhalla achter u laten.

On the 9th of februari in Tokyo there wil be a big protest against the whalehunt. Because we can not let this go past us unnoticed we also will be organising a demonstration in order to let the japanese activist know that we support them al the way. This peacefull protest will be held in Amsterdam on "de dam". Join us and make your voice heard. The voice of the voiceless! Never be silent, never give up.

Every Saturday from 9.00 to 16.00 Without a doubt, this weekly organic farmers market is one of the gastronomic delights of Amsterdam. Some even go as far as to say it is one of the best in Europe! In existence now for almost 20 years, it has become an Amsterdam institution...This wonderfully atmospheric food market is located on the Noordermarkt, a delightful square nestled between the Westerstraat and the Prinsengracht, in the heart of the charming Jordaan quarter. For food lovers in Amsterdam, it is simply an experience not to be missed. Specialist stalls carry an array of organic produce: bread, herbs, oils and of course, all the fruit, vegetables and flowers of the season, and much more besides. Try some fresh fruit juice or let yourself be amazed at the stunning display at the mushroom stall, and pick up a free recipe leaflet while you are there. In all, over 30 stall holders, arrive before dawn every Saturday to set up shop and trade until late afternoon, come rain, shine or snow. And yes, EVERYTHING is organic. But perhaps it is the people that give this market its unique atmosphere. The stall operators, always full of enthusiasm and in good spirits, constantly banter back and forth with the shoppers. The shoppers themselves are quite an eclectic mix - gourmands, chefs, Amsterdammers, tourists and expats, but they all contribute to the great atmosphere of this organic Farmers Market.

Wijkcentra Sluiten? Als het aan het stadsdeelbestuur Zuid ligt kan Wijkcentrum Ceintuur per 2012 haar deuren sluiten. Dat voornemen is vastgelegd in een conceptnota 'beleidskader Sociaal Domein'. Eind november neemt het stadsdeel een besluit. U kunt op deze site uw reactie geven en steun betuigen aan het wijkcentrum. Op deze site leest u ook de laatste ontwikkelingen.
Kom ook naar de stadsdeelraad! Wilt u steun betuigen bij één van de raadsvergaderingen? Dat kan op 2 november (Commissie Samenleven) en 24 november (Raadsvergadering). Beide vergaderingen vinden plaats op de President Kennedylaan 923 en starten om 20.00.

Waarom het wijkcentrum behouden? In dit hele grote stadsdeel Zuid staat het bestuur meer op afstand. Juist daarom is het van groot belang is dat er sterke buurtstructuren zijn. Ruimte waar bewoners zich kunnen organiseren en waar ze onafhankelijke ondersteuning kunnen krijgen is hierbij noodzakelijk. Wijkcentrum Ceintuur doet dat. Zij kan en wil deze plek zijn in de Pijp.

We have started a courtcase against the 429 declaration that was made last week on the squatted social centre at Ruyterkade 153 157. SCUB (social centre under the bridge), has now been squatted for some months. This space starts from our need to have a project based on self organization, and the expanding of possibilities that can grow from this. These are some of the ongoing activities in this space, from regular bar and vokus, to infonights, workshops, hacklab, silkscreening, radio, cinema, unplugged rehearsals and peformance etc.
it is hard to ask for support and solidarity when a space with potential is merely at the beginning of its existence and growth. However since it is important for us to find somewhat of a continuity and stability with the development of these projects and the strengthening social interactions (not only with squatters) , we are, without illusions of the “justice” system, trying to keep this space. This does not limit the creativity and range of actions that we support and encourage in attack and disgust against the invasion of our lives from a system that does not give anybodya choice to exist outside of it, especially within an urban space.
Ah yeah and our building is “owned” by Ymere and the city of amsterdam.

This meetings' agenda is... - planing and preparing video active participation in comming action - considering of making those meetings every second week - introduction of new projects if new people join us. - presentation of work what we done from last meeting and conclusions from it - considering to make one meeting with connection with the practical workshops and projection in new squatted center - Your point ?
The idea is to come together, make group, present some of the projects, make new and see how we can help each other. Together We are stronger and We can do more.For example we can teach each other how to do things better , easier and more independent. There would be beemer thus everyone could present what things he/she is busy with and what he/she can offer to the group and tell us what help he/she need.
Easter action against selling-out of social housing
On Sunday 12th April 2009 three apartments located in Commelinstraat in Amsterdam were occupied. Even though those apartments have been renovated, the owner, the housing corporation “De Key”, has not managed to sell them. As a result, they have been left empty for one and a half years. The demand of the squatters is that De Key makes these apartments again available as social housing.
The high price De Key are demanding for the apartments (on average €273.600 for an average size of 66m2) explains why they haven’t been sold. For us - students, employees, volunteers, unemployed, Dutch, foreigners, world citizens - all struggling to find a decent and affordable place to live, it is now justified to take them into use. By doing so we simultaneously take a stand against a phenomenon that is spreading in the local area and more generally in Amsterdam and other European cities. This well-known phenomenon is gentrification (expressed more popularly as ‘yuppification’), the deliberate attempt by economic and political powers to “clean up” whole districts.
The process of gentrification has developed a familiar pattern: renovations are carried out in a neighborhood and new apartments are built, causing prices to increase. Poorer people move out and make place for people that are financially better off; banks feed this vicious cycle by financing ever-higher mortgages. This phenomenon tears down the social fabric and cohesion of neighborhoods and turns lively working-class, popular districts into soul-less, dull residential areas. Gentrification affects especially poorer populations, already the hardest-hit victims of the current economic crisis.
By occupying these apartments we are saying that we have had enough and that we hope to put a halt, at least temporarily, to this damaging phenomenon that is also evident in the Dappermarkt area.
But today is not only about striking back at the gentrification affecting the area. It's also, and just as importantly, about enjoying a liberty we may very well soon lose; defending a right under threat. More than ever before, the Dutch government wants to make squatting illegal. A law to forbid squatting will be presented and discussed in the House of Commons (Tweede Kamer) before the summer. If it passes through the House of Commons, the House of Representatives (Eerste Kamer) will have to vote as well. In the worst case, if both Houses agree, squatting will be illegal by January 2010.
Because a freedom we don't use is a freedom we lose, and because of all the other reasons listed above, we are now occupying three appartments on Commelinstraat.

Op paaszondag 12 april heeft de Kraakgroep Oost drie woningen gekraakt. De Key probeerde de voormalige sociale woningen voor driehonderdduizend euro te verkopen maar daarvoor waren geen kopers te vinden. De kraakgroep had een groot aantal verklaringen van buurtbewoners dat de woningen anderhalf jaar leegstonden. Cohen negeerde dit bewijs en koos voor een gewelddadige ontruiming. De krakers boden passief verzet. In de Dapperbuurt is De Key al enige jaren bezig met een grootschalig renovatieproject. Vanwege de blunders bij de uitvoering hiervan is veel onvrede ontstaan. De corporatie verkoopt een groot onderdeel van haar bezit als luxe-appartementen, maar verhelpt het achterstallige onderhoud bij sociale huurwoningen nauwelijks. Voor winkeliers rond de Dappermarkt gaat de huur exorbitant omhoog. Dat leidde eerder al tot hevig protest van huurders en winkeliers* De kraakactie op deze paaszondag was dan ook als protest en verzet tegen deze aanpak en het achterliggende beleid bedoeld. De kraakgroep is van mening dat op deze manier betaalbare huurwoningen verdwijnen en vindt het onaanvaardbaar dat zulke woningen dan jarenlang te koop staan terwijl de wachtlijsten voor huurwoningen maar blijven groeien. Het protest is eveneens gericht tegen het verdrijven van armere delen van de bevolking voor kapitaalkrachtigen die door koop op de woningmarkt voordringen. De kraakgroep vindt het verbijsterend dat Cohen kiest voor gewelddadige ontruiming van etages die juist wel langer dan een jaar leegstaan om de belangen van een corporatie te beschermen die haar verplichtingen duidelijk verzaakt. Als een ding duidelijk wordt met deze ontruiming, is het wel dat kennelijk de belangen van De Key zwaarder wegen dan het recht op wonen. Dat een voormalige woningbouwverening etages voor te hoge koopprijzen laat leegstaan terwijl steeds minder mensen een goede woning kunnen betalen is het failliet van het woonbeleid van de gemeente Amsterdam. Cohen had met zijn actie de noodzaak van kraken niet beter kunen aantonen. Ondanks toezeggingen van voormalige corporaties geen woningen leeg te laten staan komt dit nog steeds veelvuldig voor. Kraakacties zijn dan ook een bittere noodzaak om corporaties tot de orde te roepen. Anna Brouwer van de Kraakgroep Oost: "Als vandaag iemand zijn eigen ruiten ingegooid heeft is het Cohen wel. Hij heeft met deze actie duidelijk gemaakt ondanks al zijn uitspraken tegen leegstand de belangen van een asociale corporatie belangrijker te vinden dan die van die van normale mensen in Amsterdam." Gisteren is het ME-circus klaar met ontruimen van de gistermiddag gekraakte etages Commelinstraat 21-1, 43-1 en 47bel. Er zijn ongeveer 25 mensen opgepakt toen ze nog binnen waren na sommaties te vertrekken. De woningen zijn van woningbouwcorporatie de key/principaal. Nadat ze in 2007 gerenoveerd zijn, werden deze voormalige sociale huurwoningen te koop aangeboden. Toch bleven ze leegstaan, blijkbaar te duur....omdat de key beweerde dat de woningen minder dan een jaar leegstonden, vond burgemeester Cohen het gerechtvaardigd het ME-circus incl. paarden, paraat vanwege een voetbalwedstrijd, op te trommelen voor een instand-ontruiming. Meerdere verklaringen van buren dat de woningen langer dan een jaar leegstonden wogen niet op tegen een verklaring van een a-sociale woningbouwvereniging. Nu zijn de woningen weer leeg en zit er bewaking in.

This is from two years after... International Campaign for Tibet Europe en de Tibet Support Groep Nederland vroegen op 10 december op de Internationale Mensenrechtendag aandacht voor de schendingen van de mensenrechten in Tibet onder het motto Silenced: Stop censorship in Tibet.
Deze dag lanceerde de VN tevens een campagne onder het motto 'Waardigheid en Gerechtigheid voor Allen' om te vieren dat het in 2008 zestig jaar geleden is dat de Universele Verklaring van de Rechten van de Mens werd opgesteld.
De bijeenkomst op de Dam in Amsterdam werd geopend door ICT Europe directeur Tsering Jampa, gevolgd door een gebed door de Tibetaanse monnik Geshe Ngawang Zoepa.
'De wereld kan niet blindelings met een boodschap van waardigheid en gerechtigheid het 60-jarige bestaan van de Universele Verklaring van de Rechten van de Mens vieren terwijl de VN tegelijkertijd de mensenrechtensituatie in Tibet negeert,' aldus Tsering Jampa, Executieve Director van ICT Europe en voorzitster van de Tibet Support Groep-NL.
Tijdens een gevarieerd programma werden Tibet-supporters en langs lopend winkelend publiek er op gewezen dat sinds 1949 Tibet door China bezet wordt en dat sindsdien de fundamentele economische, sociale, politieke en culturele mensenrechten in Tibet worden geschonden. Tibet kent geen vrije pers en internet wordt gecensureerd. Internationale bedrijven zoals Google maken het de Chinese autoriteiten mogelijk om websites met onderwerpen als Tibet's onafhankelijkheid en de Dalai Lama te blokkeren.
Speciale aandacht werd die middag gericht op de veroordeling op 20 november in Lithang, Oost Tibet, van vier Tibetanen, 'the Lithang Four'. De nomade Runggye Adak kreeg een gevangenisstraf van acht jaar, omdat hij tijdens een paardenracefestival op 1 augustus jl. opriep tot de terugkeer van de Dalai Lama en tot de vrijlating van de Panchen Lama en Tenzin Delek Rinpoche. De monnik Lupoe Adak kreeg tien jaar en kunstdocent en schilder Kunkhyen negen jaar voor het nemen van foto's van Runggye's arrestatie, en omdat ze probeerden informatie naar buiten te sturen. Een vierde Tibetaan, Jarib Lothog, kreeg drie jaar voor zijn betrokkenheid.
Via een petitie en handtekeningenactie, gericht aan president Hu Jintao, drongen ICT en de TSG op tot de vrijlating van de 'Lithang Four' en alle andere Tibetaanse politieke gevangenen.
De Tibetaanse non en ex-politieke gevangene Phuntsog Nyidron sprak over haar ervaringen tijdens haar 15 jaar durende gevangenschap. Na een kort protest in Lhasa, samen met andere nonnen, werd zij gevangen gezet. Ze was een van de nonnen die in de Drapchi gevangenis in het geheim liederen opnam die naar buiten werden gesmokkeld, hierdoor werd haar straf verlengd. Phuntsog Nyidron wist het aanwezige publiek op de Dam te ontroeren met haar verhaal over de situatie van politieke gevangenen in Tibet en de martelingen die zij zelf regelmatig onderging.
Tevens werd er bij de Chinese autoriteiten op aangedrongen om in de aanloop naar de Olympische Spelen Beijing 2008 de mensenrechtenschendingen in Tibet te beëindigen en directe onderhandelingen te beginnen met de Dalai Lama om een oplossing te vinden voor de Tibetaanse kwestie. In het kader daarvan sprak de Tibetaanse coach van het Tibetaanse voetbalteam in ballingschap Kalsang Dhondup. Hij is in Nederland op uitnodiging van ICT-Europe ter voorbereiding van het geplande bezoek van het Tibetaanse Nationale Voetbalelftal in het voorjaar van 2008.
Op de Dam waren er behalve diverse andere sprekers ook optredens van twee Tibetaanse artiesten, de zangeressen Soname Yangchen en Chungga.
Achter goedkoop vlees schuilt een drama: oerwoud wordt gekapt voor sojaplantages. De soja gaat als veevoer naar onze varkens en kippen. Supermarkten zoals Albert Heijn kunnen hier een eind aan maken. Dat vertelt Milieudefensie het winkelend publiek tijdens deze campagnetoernee.

We want subculture instead of commercial bullshit! Express yourself instead of consuming! On Thursday 25.03.09 starting at 3 o'clock, there will be workshops and an open artspace dealing with Street Art and Reclaim the city and the radical HipHop bar in the evening till late. It will take place in the new squatted social center in Amsterdam Center (Piet Heinkade 2 and De Ruyterkade 153-157). > WORKSHOPS [15:00] Intervention in public space workshop feat. Reclaim the city with your own art and actions. Learn how to produce stencils from scratch, alter advertisments and plan your own actions. Print your own stickers, posters and t-shirts - communicate your political attitude through art or
just express yourself in the streets.
We will provide all the knowledge and tools and we will help you to realise your own ideas. Use our silkscreen printing facilities, design and cut stencils, get knowledge about organising reclaim the city actions, do a Graffiti piece and
hang out with people at the bar.
We will screen the latest and best Graffiti movies and play some nice oldschool HipHop music.

Style Wars is an early documentary on hip hop culture in New York City, produced by Tony Silver and Henry Chalfant in 1983. Style Wars gives a view into the graffiti subculture (as well as urban New York City life in the 1980s), documents the stages of New York City Hip Hop, and shows that its members were a racially and ethnically diverse group of creative young artists.

New Social Center in Amsterdam/Centrum squatted Reclaim the city!
Today the 21 of march we squatted Piet Heinkade 2 and De Ruyterkade 153-157 on "het Ij" which are part of the recently built bridge on the level of the Muzikgebouw behind Central Station. Those two spaces have been remained empty and unused since their construction or rather the construction of the bridge in 2004. The owner of the whole complex is the City Amsterdam, but the 2 squatted places are additional owned by Woningcooperatie Ymere. We are planning to use the space as an autonomous social center, where workshops, info evenings, movy evenings, peolpe's kitchen, bar, bike repair shop, library and distro, silkscreening and many more activities will take place (see the programm for the first week below).
…we are fighting for self organized spaces, that can be freed of the political, social and cultural conformity brought by enforced capitalist compliance…(based on representation and compromise)… …but, now more than ever, our desires are being attacked by the authorities… …the city is mainly concerned with increased security measures and control... the planning of urban space is always dominated by the needs of the rich and structured in order to maintain social control... and...we the ones who don’t fit into and fight against these plans, by choice or by circumstances, are the ones being fucked over, evicted and excluded by this policy… …we don’t want that freedom and autonomy be granted to us by our enemies, which would mean to compromise on their terms. …We want to create possibilities of genuine face to face interaction as a way of opposing the system that surveills, normalizes, codes and controls us. … This is why we want to use squatted places as a tool in the first practical steps to exist on our own terms and to brew resistance against the capitalist system protected by laws, government and cops. These spaces are points from which some of our contribution to social struggle can develop, sharpen and grow. And where we can begin to live and understand how much this system of control over our lives is only repressing the possibilities of liberated social interaction and action, therefore useless to us, and must be attacked, destroyed!!!

Invitation for a meeting to organise the War on Cars Festival.
A short while ago there came the idea to organise an action-festival in Amsterdam that combines actions against cars with promoting bike riding. We want to combine radical actions with fun activities. This means we want to do fun events like bike wars, a bakfiets races, critical mass and more on the city streets. This combined with an info market, movies and workshops. We want to mobilise internationally so it will be a meeting of bike activist/bikelovers from all over the world.
