Mass Action
Put coal under the ground. August 7 2009 // A mass direct action against coal
On August 7 2009 hundreds of activists, collected at the Climate Action Camp in the border area between Bergen op Zoom and Antwerp, throw up a non-violent blockade against more coal. Join us and help putting coal back where it belongs, under the ground!
Coal is the dirtiest and most dangerous form of fossil fuel. The plans for companies like E.ON and Electrabel for more coal-fired power plants are the biggest threat to a stable climate. We should demolish coal-fired power plants instead of building new ones. Prominent climate scientists like Jim Hansen call for civil disobedience and a moratorium on the construction of coal-fired power plants. We turn word into action.
We will not solely ask politicians and companies like E.ON and Elektrabel to abandon their plan to use more coal. We plan to make it impossible for them to do so. Armed with scientific knowledge, creativity and civil disobedience.
The seventh of August is the start of a movement that no longer passively stands by and watch industry and politics letting the climate crisis escalate by holding on to a dogma of economic growth, and by false solutions for the climate like propagating nuclear power, CO2 trade and biofuels. To help our society get rid of its fossil fuels addiction we need to change it fundamentally.
To safeguard our own pro-existence we need to develop an alternative for the existing world in the here and now, and resist the powers that are in the way of an energy revolution. In August at the Climate Action Camp, in December in Copenhagen, and next year everywhere. There is no time to loose.
More details on the action will be announced at the Climate Action Camp.
