FULL-PAGE ADVERTISEMENT TODAY IN LA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER RAILS AGAINST THE MEAT INDUSTRY AND ITS USE OF AMMONIA IN THE U.S. FOOD SUPPLY; NONPROFIT GROUP LAUNCHES NATIONAL INFO-AD CAMPAIGN

LOS ANGELES - Responsible Education and Media (R.E.M.) is launching a nationwide "info-ad" campaign today, February 4, with a full-page educational advertisement in the LA Weekly. This first info-ad, "Tainted," is aimed at further exposing the meat industry in the United States and its use of ammonia to kill E. coli and salmonella.

"The U.S. meat supply is being contaminated with ammonia allegedly to make meat safer, yet it doesn't appear to even be working as there are still significant levels of E. coli and salmonella present in the ammonia-treated meat," states Keri Rosebraugh, spokeswoman for R.E.M. "This tainted meat is ending up being fed to school children and the public nationwide."

"Tainted" is just the first in a series of info-ads that R.E.M. plans to place nationwide in prominent newspapers. Part of R.E.M.'s "Get This... Get Active..." campaign, each info-ad will use a mixture of art and entertainment to provide a factual analysis on human rights, environmental protection, and animal advocacy issues. Along with each Get This... ad will be a corresponding Get Active section on the group's website (www.responsibleeducationandmedia.org) detailing what the public can do to become involved in creating a more just and sustainable society.

A veteran illustrator and artist, Rosebraugh co-founded R.E.M. in 2009 to combine her artistic background with educational projects designed at making a positive impact in the world. "I believe that we all have the responsibility to become aware of issues of injustice in the world and to use our individual talents and abilities to make a difference," she states.

Rosebraugh sits on the board of directors for R.E.M., where she is joined by co-founders Victoria Howard (artist/educator) and Craig Rosebraugh (activist/author).
