This is a platform for our affinity group, our squat Positivenest, our projects like Program Awakening, and the videos and posters manufactured by Spirit of Squatters Collective and a few others. Our idea is to bring a lot of positive messages and constructive solutions to the alternative movement. We try to avoid pessimistic news, except when we are fighting for freedom of speech. Op 26 mei is er een open Indymedia-NL vergadering op de Pinksterlanddagen in Appelscha. Op deze vergadering is iedereen welkom om mee te praten over het beheer en de functionaliteit van Indymedia.nl. De vergadering zal worden gehouden van 16.45 – 17.45 in de gymzaal.
In oktober vorig jaar is de website vernieuwd en is onder andere een discussie, agenda en opinie functie toegevoegd. Nieuwe functionaliteit brengt ook nieuwe vragen met zich mee, onder andere over het modereer beleid. Open posting brengt met zich mee dat er zaken geplaatst worden die niet op de site thuis horen en ook binnen het discussie gedeelte worden soms bijdragen geplaatst die eerder bedoeld lijken om de discussie te verstoren dan er aan bij te dragen. Het verwijderen van zaken levert vaak de beschuldiging van censuur op.
Op deze bijeenkomst willen we met gebruikers van de site overleggen wat het modereerbeleid zou moeten inhouden. Wordt er teveel of juist te weinig gemodereerd? Waar liggen de grenzen en wat zouden de richtlijnen moeten zijn? Tevens zijn we op zoek naar mensen die hieraan een bijdrage willen leveren middels een eigen login account en mensen met kennis van Drupal die een bijdrage aan de technische kant van de website zouden kunnen leveren.

Je kunt arrestanten vaak steunen door ze post te sturen. Zie voor namen en adressen deze pagina of de website van de ABC, die een veel groter overzicht hebben van politieke gevangenen waar je naar kunt schrijven.
Een andere manier om arrestanten te steunen is door lawaai te maken op de plaats waar ze vastzitten zodat ze merken dat ze niet vergeten zijn. Ook kun je vaak kleding, geld en andere spullen langs brengen. Soms wordt geweigerd om spullen aan te nemen terwijl ze dat wel zouden moeten doen. Geef dan niet te snel op en sta op je rechten. Er bestaan verschillende, soms strenge regels. Neem contact op met de arrestantengroep als je hulp nodig hebt.
Als je mensen die vastzitten persoonlijk kent kun je bij ze op bezoek gaan als ze in een huis van bewaring og gevangenis zitten. Daarvoor zijn heel verschillende regelingen, vaak moet die persoon jou zelf eerst op een lijst zetten of je doorgeven wanneer hij of zij bezoek kan ontvangen. Neem contact op met de arrestantengroep als je hier hulp bij nodig hebt.

Er zijn ondertussen 350 vluchtelingen in het tentenkamp in Ter Apel. Ze komen uit Irak, Somalië, Iran, Azerbeidzjan, Ethiopië, Eritrea en Afghanistan. Het kamp groeit elke dag. Nog steeds zijn de leefomstandigheden miserabel en is een oplossing voor hun problemen ver weg.
Het Rode Kruis had in eerste instantie toegezegd om hulp te bieden. Dit hebben zij vervolgens helaas weer ingetrokken. Vrijwillig hulpverleenster Marianne Bathoorn hierover: "Ik denk dat het gewoon verboden is, van boven af. Dat vind ik absurd. Het Rode Kruis moet gewoon onafhankelijk kunnen reageren op noodsituaties."
Dinsdag 22 mei is er een debat in de Tweede Kamer. Hopelijk komen zij eindelijk met een oplossing en bieden zij onderdak en een veilige toekomst aan deze mensen.

The occupation in the Hambach Forest, against clearcutting for lignite mining is gioing on for 20 days now and there's a lot going on. In addition to the four platforms in the trees, a kitchen, a solar shower, a free-shop and a provisional compost toilet have been built. A Celtic roundhouse as a community space is under construction, as are several treehouses. Other buildings are planned.
But not only the establishment of a good infrastructure has progressed, the occupation gained much popular support. There's a lot of positive feed-back, but it also shows how scared people are of the power company RWE. Many dare only behind closed doors to give us encouragement, or giving others financial donations to bring them to the forest, because they don't dare to go themselves.
The squatters had the opportunity to establish „diplomatic relations" to RWE, the police and the local forester. So some empolyees of RWE Power came to visit and were very concerned that people could fall into the hole (as the open-cast is called). In addition, they told that the occupation would be „tolerated", as long as „the ball would be held low." That seems to be their main interest, and for this purpose RWE employees were instructed to leave us alone and not to provoke. The RWE folks also had very interesting theories about the origin of the high air pollution in the vicinity of the mine, which is originating from the Hambach Forest.
Also very interesting was the conversation with the police. They also do not wish to escalate and don't want to evict us, at least not „as long as everything is staying peacefully." They don't want to be the horse in front of the cart of RWE, nor RWE-oponents. Let's see if that's prevailing when RWE wants the forest and some higher police agencies are responsible … For the local police station, the forest occupation so far is merely an administrative offence, namely „wild camping". And this is not enough to seriously interfere.
Finally, there is a little anecdote from the conversation with the forester, who said that we would probably drive Flora and Fauna crazy. Really surprising that we didn't hear those comments about the machinations of RWE Power. Says the old adage? „Whose bread I eat, his song I sing." This also fits very well that the entire local press had not yet written about the occupation, even though they were already on site. Sure, otherwise there is just no more ads by RWE.
