Occupy Love - movie soon

A feature documentary by  Velcrow Ripper
Produced by Nova Ami, Ian MacKenzie and Velcrow Ripper

Executive Producers Betsy Carson and Catherine Tait

Occupy Love is a moving, transformative feature documentary that asks the question: how is the economic and ecological crisis of today a great love story?

Join acclaimed director Velcrow Ripper  ( Scared Sacred, Fierce Light ) on a journey deep inside  the global revolution of the heart that is erupting around the planet.

From the Arab Spring to the European Summer, to the Occupy Movement, to the global climate justice movement, a profound shift is taking place: humanity is waking up to the fact that the dominant system of power is failing to provide us with health, happiness or meaning.   The old paradigm that concentrates wealth, founded on the greed of the few, is collapsing. Endless growth on a finite planet cannot be sustained.   The resulting crisis has become the catalyst for a profound transformation:  millions of people are deciding that enough is enough –  the time has come to create a new world, a world that works for all life.

Woven throughout the moving, action oriented backbone of the story, will be a deep  exploration of the heart of the movement, the meaning of  love, and concrete examples of just what "another world" could look like, featuring some of world's key visionaries on alternative systems of economics, sustainability, and empathy.

Occupy Love is  a moving, transformative, heartfelt film, featuring Ripper's signature stunning visuals and theatrical soundscapes.  It will be a powerful, transformative and cinematic experience that will leave audiences inspired.

The film features an incredible cast of visionaries, both  well known, and the everyday heroes who are emerging in this fledgling movement.  Featuring: Malik Rhassan from Occupy the Hood, visionary Naomi Klein, sacred economist Charles Eisenstein, "Horizontal Power" author and early Occupy organizer Marina Sitrin, native elder and activist Tom Goldtooth, climate activist Bill McKibben,  Occupy activist and author Rebecca Solnit, author "Empathic Civilization" Jeremy Rifkin, and more.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT: Occupy Love is the movie I have been waiting to make, all my life.  Today's global awakening is what my earlier films have been anticipating and fostering – a current of potential that was pulsing  and rumbling, just below the surface. Suddenly, from the Arab Spring to the European Summer to the global Occupy Movement, the volcano has erupted.  As the  popular #Occupy sign reads, "The Beginning is Here."

Rebelact (doesn't?) celebrate five years of rebel clowning!

Sunday, Sept 9th 2007 Amsterdam Rebel Clowns gathered for the first time. Now 5 years and 60 interventions later the red noses even don't have time to celebrate. The clowns have a rehearsal this weekend to prepare their next mission, a very special one!

What happened in the last period? In February we joined the Art as Money Festival: there we 'privatised' the large toilet space. No, we didn't publish it on Indymedia. A pitty because our 'business class toilets' with special services were really great!

In the months after we had discussions about how to renew our concept and way of organising. Although you probably won't notice the differences, we're very glad with the outcome. That's why we start this brand new season with much fresh energy!

By the way: we already started the season with a first training Sunday, August 26th. Much more will follow. Why?
Again: because we should prepare our next mission, a very special one!

If you're curious, take a look at our brand new website! http://www.rebelact.nl
Go to the News column and you read the very first lines about it.

By the way: the new website is not finished yet (still 51 actions to upload and several texts to add and improve), but even now we're already very happy to celebrate our five years that way!

A massive ray of hope on climate - sign petition

Dear friends across Europe,

There's new hope on climate change! China has aggressively invested billions in solar energy, making it almost as cheap as fossil fuels. But, instead of matching that investment, the EU today started an investigation into tariffs on China, which could kill the clean energy revolution. We only have days to make a formal submission and stop them. Sign the petition to the Trade Commissioner calling for talks not tariffs.
Climate change is accelerating, but there's a massive new ray of hope: clean energy is booming, and producing nearly 20% of the world's electricity! Incredibly, the EU today threatened to stifle this breakthrough -- but together we can stop them.

In the last decade, China has invested billions in solar and used aggressive subsidy strategies that have sent panel prices plummeting. Clean green tech is now almost as cheap as dirty fossil fuels! But instead of matching that investment, our governments have cut back on renewables, while continuing their huge handouts to Big Oil and Coal. Now that they're losing the solar market share, a few companies are pushing the EU to slap tariffs on China -- a move that could kill the clean energy revolution.

Today, the EU Commission initiated an investigation into tariffs. Many in the solar industry and Chancellor Angela Merkel are against this move. Now, if we build a 500,000 strong petition, Avaaz will make a formal submission to the EU that could tip the balance. But we only have days to make sure the public is heard. Sign the petition to the Trade Commissioner calling for talks not tariffs:

China has a poor human rights and environmental record, and its strategy of flooding the global market with subsidised goods could be considered overly aggressive. But while China, the EU and the US all continue to funnel tens of billions into Big Coal, Oil and Gas to destroy our planet, China is also providing loans and huge subsidies to the solar industry. And that's exactly what our governments have failed to do.

It's tough, some European solar panel firms have gone bankrupt or are facing bankruptcy, but blaming China alone is short-sighted. Heavy tariffs placed on Chinese panels would increase the price of solar power and would be a job killer for the booming solar installation sector, which makes up a large share of the industry in Europe. Instead, European leaders should cut fossil fuel subsidies, invest heavily in appropriate renewables, and work with China to facilitate trade and speed up the clean energy revolution.

We're in a race against the clock to green our economies and prevent catastrophic climate change, and Chinese success in green tech could be the perfect catalyst for the rest of the world to scale up the technology and sustainably bring down prices. Let's urgently call on Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht not to kill our climate ray of hope:

In the world most of us everywhere want, our governments would incentivise clean energy, not hand out our money to polluters making record profits from dirtying our land, air and water. Today, we can save solar, and take one step closer to that future.

With hope,

Iain, Joseph, Alice, David, Julien, Emma, Ricken and the rest of the Avaaz team
